SFA Group Partners with Planet Water to Bring Clean Water to Cambodian School
Siem Reap, Cambodia [12 March 2024] - In commemoration of World Water Day (March 22nd), SFA Group is proud to announce the renewal of their partnership with the Planet Water Foundation. This renewed commitment focuses on providing access to clean drinking water for underprivileged communities around the world.
Clean Water for 1,800 in Cambodia
As part of this initiative, SFA Group pledged €10,000 towards the construction of an innovative AquaTower at Hun Sen Run Taek Primary School in Siem Reap Province, Cambodia. This AquaTower will be a vital source of safe drinking water for an estimated 1,800 people, including the school's 838 students.
Sustainable Clean Water Solution
The AquaTower, funded jointly by SFA Group and a private foundation, utilises advanced filtration technology to eliminate bacteria, fungi, and impurities as small as 0.01 microns. This impressive system boasts a production capacity of 1,000 liters of clean water per hour.
Guaranteeing Long-Term Functionality
Planet Water Foundation's commitment goes beyond initial installation. For the next four years, they will conduct regular maintenance visits, ensuring the AquaTower's continued operation through technical support, spare parts provision, and ongoing system performance monitoring.
Promoting Hygiene and Sustainability
The project extends beyond clean water access by incorporating hygiene education programs for the surrounding community and the school's students. Each student received a reusable stainless-steel cup, and additional funds will be used to install a surface disinfection system at the school.
Quotes Highlighting the Impact
Hing Him, the esteemed Principal of Hun Sen Run Taek School, shared his sentiments on the inauguration of the AquaTower: "I'm really glad and proud to have the AquaTower installed in our school today. This allows all of us here to have access to clean and safe drinking water. Many people—the students, teachers, and the villagers—will benefit from this project. In the past, we had challenges with safe water access, with students and teachers having to purchase bottled water, and many drank untreated water. Thank you for also providing us with the latrine disinfection system and drinking cups for everyone here. Thank you so much for your generosity."
Yong Thiny, a bright Grade 5 student, expressed his joy and relief at the newfound availability of clean drinking water: "I'm happy today because for the first time, my school has clean drinking water for everyone. I no longer need to worry about drinking water issues as we now have this water filtration system, which gives me and my friends all the drinking water we need. I would like to say thank you so much for bringing this clean and safe drinking water project to our school."
Addressing Global Water Challenges
World Water Day serves as a crucial reminder of the global water crisis. With over 2.2 billion people lacking access to safe drinking water and sanitation, and water scarcity affecting half the world's population annually, the 2024 theme, "Water for Peace", emphasises the necessity for collaborative efforts. SFA Group's partnership with Planet Water Foundation exemplifies such collaboration, working towards a future with access to clean water, promoting peace, and fostering global sustainability.
